Shorag

A small art film about independence, devoid of, politicians, financiers, business tycoons, blue chip companies, banks, statistics, greed and money. Shorag is a Pictish Shamen figure , she represents transformation , the elimination of existing, the creation of a new blank canvas, a transition, depicting a journey , starting with small steps expressing the trepidation and fears related to the journey and the future of standing alone, of being self-sufficient but also considered about the past and the future . This is the first of two films, this being off the sea the other being off the land.

The Butterfly “a glimmer of god”

One of the most distinctive aspects of the show is the selective focusing. The garden world (photographed at the Royal Botanical Garden, Edinburgh) flickers in and out of scenes of lush and heavy forest to singular images of flame-like forms, many white, innocence and purity in an apparent shadow land. Through the lens the plants and trees take on sculptural properties, sensuous curves and transparency. The voice of the images settles in the mind of the viewer. The Island of the saint who never was- A hauntingly beautiful and hugely thought provoking collection of photographic works by international renowned artist Craig Mackay. His work accompanied by the award winning poet Ian Stephen. The words form a poetic log and follows their journey to ‘The Island of the saint who never was’- St Kilda(being the collective name for the archipelago group of islands located fifty five miles west of the Butt of Lewis in the Atlantic Ocean. The journey to St Kilda was done in the yacht El Vigo, a 28ft long racing boat built in the 1930’s. …
